A 5 year old child who was hurt Saturday after a salt block fell on his head died.
According to Idaho State Police the child was riding in a vehicle on Highway 52, 13 miles north of Emmett, with 25 year old Jason Atwood of Nampa, when a salt block fell off the pickup truck in front of their vehicle.
66 year old Ronald Morgenthaler, of Weiser, was driving north with two pallets of salt blocks on his flatbed. According to police, both pallets of salt blocks were covered with shrink wrap and tied down, but while Atwood was driving south and as Morgenthaler was at milepost 43, the shrink wrap on one of the pallets came loose, causing multiple salt blocks to fall.
