Boise Veteran Dies a Few Days Before He Was to Be a Parade Grand Marshal

Clair Kilton served in the military in the 1940's, and had been selected to serve as one of four Grand Marshal's at the Boise Veteran's Day Parade on Saturday, but he passed away just a few days before he got the chance.

Each of the four Grand Marshals represented a different era, and Clair Kilton was the veteran selected to represent the WW II era.

KTVB says Kilton was on active duty with the U.S. Army in March 1943, and fought in battles in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Germany.  Among the accolades he achieved -- the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal with five Battle stars, a Purple Heart and Silver Star.  Kilton passed away last Tuesday.  The Veteran's Day Parade happened Saturday in Downtown Boise.

Veteran's Day is officially coming up on Saturday, November 11th, and it's a great time to give all veterans a hug and a high five to thank them for their service.  Many Treasure Valley restaurants are planning to offer meal deals, and will be serving up some free food for veterans to say thanks.

My dad is a US Navy veteran, and he's faithful about flying the flag on Veteran's Day not for himself, but to honor all those who served alongside him in the 1960s.  Kilton's absence at Saturday's parade is a great reminder to all of us to thank veterans while we have the opportunity.
