Firefighters Make Progress On Whiskey Complex Fires

Officials say the Whiskey Complex fires burning near Garden Valley was 20 percent contained as of Saturday evening. The two fires that burned together now cover more than 8,500 acres.
Residents were seen entering the closed area around the fire that extends to points near Placerville, Centerville and Pioneerville. Officials are urging people to stay out of the closed area because the fire is uncontrolled and could become active and dangerous in their area.
Fire officials say another small fire broke out near Cascade Reservoir on Saturday morning, but crews contain it quickly.
