The Ada County Sheriff’s Department along with the Boise Project Board of Control have shut down a portion of the greenbelt on Memorial Day after erosion concerns.

The Penitentiary Canal, which parallels the Greenbelt pathway, was leaking in the area between Diversion Dam and the meandering pathway near the Hwy 21 bridge that connects to the Greenbelt.

The erosion of the soil under the pathway could result in a collapse into a sinkhole resulting in officials to decide that the area was too dangerous to have bikers and pedestrians continue using the path.

Drivers on Highway 21 are being warned of bicyclist using the road as a detour.
