Idaho Falls Police Officer Blaine Reed was off duty last night when he entered a home in Layton, Utah, uninvited, to confront someone possibly involved in a relationship with Reed's ex-girlfriend.

This is one of those situations where I think everyone involved just wishes they could go back in time and change what happened?  What exactly happened is currently under investigation but authorities believe Reed confronted the homeowner and eventually the homeowner was afraid for his life, took out his gun and shot Reed multiple times.

The homeowner's identity has not been released.  We do know that he is the one who called 911 and police say that he is completely cooperating.  Here's a quote that Layton Police Lt. Travis Lyman gave to EastIdahoNews.com.

Right now it appears that the situation was justified for self-defense but it’s too early in the investigation to determine if charges will be filed

Reed has worked for the Idaho Falls Police Department since 2015.  He earned the department’s “Life‐Saving” Award in 2016 for saving a man after a drug overdose.

What prompted this horrible tragedy we may never know.  And we, as a public who support our law enforcement and the sacrifices they make for us every day don't know how to feel.  I mean how can we?  We don't even really know what happened yet.  So before jumping to conclusions, please just take a second to think about and pray for all of these people involved.  Many are hurting today and that's where the focus needs to be while authorities figure out what exactly happened.
