Her parents say she's white.  She says she's black.  Rachel Dolezal told KREM, that if she was asked, she would consider herself black.  She's the president of the Spokane Chapter of the NAACP.    The controversy over Dolezal's race began when her parents told KREM TV that she was born white and is white.  They shared photos of their daughter in this televised interview.  The Spokane Chapter of the NAACP issued a statement of support for their Spokane president.  (You can read the entire statement here.)

The statement read that race is not a determining factor in who is and isn't in a position of leadership within the NAACP.  'One’s racial identity is not a qualifying criteria or disqualifying standard for NAACP leadership.  The NAACP Alaska-Oregon-Washington State Conference stands behind Ms. Dolezal’s advocacy record.'
