A 38-year-old homeless man is in custody after police say he pulled a knife on two preteen girls on the Greenbelt this afternoon near the Boise River at East 48th Street.
According to Garden City Police, the incident happened around 2 p.m. They says two sisters, ages 10 and 12, came upon the man who pulled out a knife waving it in an agitated state. The girls became frightened and ran away.
Police were called to the scene and found a man fitting the description given to them by the girls. The homeless man was living in a makeshift camp was taken into custody and has been interviewed by detectives.
He is being charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Police have not released the man's name, citing an ongoing investigation. Neither of the girls was injured during the assault.
