Republican Representative Luke Malek announced that he is running for the open seat in Idaho’s 1st Congressional District at a gathering with his supporters.   Malek was raised in Idaho, and is a third-term state representative, lawyer and community leader who is dedicated to serving his fellow Idahoans.
“I’m running for Congress because we need a Representative who will fight for Idaho’s future,” said Malek.

“For too long, the political elites have stifled our economy and served special interests by spending money we don’t have. Together, we can build an Idaho where families prosper, our children receive a world-class education and our businesses are free to focus on creating jobs, all while upholding our conservative values.”
Malek will travel throughout the 1st Congressional District meeting voters and sharing his plan for securing a brighter tomorrow over the next several months.
“In every town hall meeting I attend, voters tell me the same thing: they don’t feel like the government is listening. Idahoans are tired of the excuses, they’re looking for a leader who works hard, solves problems and will stand up to this job-killing bureaucracy. I share their views and will work tirelessly to make sure their voices are heard in Washington, D.C.”
During his time in the state legislature, Malek has earned a reputation as a hard-worker who fights for his constituents. He fought to protect Idaho’s firefighters from work-related illness, kept the federal government out of Idaho’s health insurance exchange and passed critical transportation funding to rebuild the state’s aging infrastructure.

He is deeply committed to simplifying the tax code and ending the burdensome regulations that stifle Idaho’s core industries – agriculture, timber and mining.
Malek is married to his longtime sweetheart Tara. Together they enjoy exploring Idaho’s backcountry, fly fishing and spending time with family and friends.
