It was a big night for the UFC.  Here’s a breakdown of the winners and losers from UFC 187.  He couldn’t beat Jon Jones, but that didn’t stop Daniel Cormier from weathering a series of heavy punches from Anthony Johnson to win the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.  Cormier used his cardio and experience to submit Johnson by rear naked choke in the third round.  It appears that Cormier’s motto of ‘embrace the grind’ has paid off.

It was noted by Fox commentator Jay Glazer on Fox Sports One that this was the first time a new light heavyweight champion had been crowned in 1527 days.  Jon Jones had held the title prior to the UFC stripping him due to legal/personal issues.  The new champ had a message for the old champ.  “I have a message for one man: Jon Jones, get your s–t together!” Cormier said. “I’m waiting for you!”

The first main event fight featured Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman verses UFC Legend Vito Belfort.  Like Cormier, Weidman survived an heavy early shots from Belfort.  The champion absorbed the blows and eventually taking Vito to the ground.  The fight was stopped by the referee in the first round.

In other UFC 187 action:
