What’s Next For BSU?
KOETTER HARSIN WILCOX
Chris Petersen time as a Bronco is over and BSU officials are wondering what next? Petersen accepted the head coaching job with the Huskies on Friday, leaving a program he brought from the first surprising Fiesta Bowl win, to a regular in National polls and Bowl games. Boise State athletic director Mark Coyle and President Bob Kustra now have to find and hire a head coach to take the program to the next chapter. During Petersen’s 8 year reign, the team won more games than any other FBS coach. Petersen met one last time with coaches and players Friday. University officials said he will not coach the Broncos in their upcoming bowl game. Coyle named assistant Bob Gregory as interim coach.
Three coaches with ties to the Boise State football program have been mentioned as the most likely successors to departed coach Chris Petersen, the Idaho Statesman learned Friday night. Former defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox, former offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin and former coach Dirk Koetter would allow the Broncos to maintain a sense of continuity while infusing some new energy into the program.
