Celebrity “Time’s Up” Donors That Need to Re-Think Their Decisions

With awards season starting, there have been countless celebrities discussing, and showing support for The Time's Up initiative. From pins to hashtags and wearing all black, celebrities have helped draw awareness against sexual harassment and provide legal funds to support victims.

While it's a great cause, when dealing with Hollywood, it's important to acknowledge that many of the actors, directors, producers and talent agencies who are showing off the most public support, are also, often, those who are complicit in perpetuating sexual harassment in Hollywood in the first place.

Are these public Hollywood donors really committed about making abusers face consequences? Here's what we found.

History of Time's Up

According to Variety, Time's Up was founded by four female CAA agents: Maha Dakhil, Michelle Kydd Lee, Hylda Queally and Christy Haubegger. It then quickly expanded to include agents from WME, UTA and ICM. To date, these companies make up four of the six biggest donors to the Times Up cause.

Background on Time's Up Biggest Donors

CAA - Donated $2,000,000

CAA had at least eight talent agents who knew that Harvey Weinstein was harassing or menacing their female clients, yet CAA agents continued to arrange private meetings. A main CAA agent was the one who arranged for Gwyneth Paltrow to have a private hotel meeting with Harvey, despite knowing his history, according to her.

Ronan Farrow was a client of CAA and according to Page Six, he was writing one of the first pieces discussing the sexual harassment of Harvey Weinstein. When Weinstein found out about the piece, he went to the office of Bryan Lourd (pictured top left next to Ben Affleck), one of the partners at CAA, to complain about it. Lourd tried to get Ronan to meet with Weinstein in hopes they could smooth things out. Instead of settling and helping to keep Weinstein's predator ways secret, he left the agency.

In 2005, Courtney Love warned actresses during an interview, "If Harvey Weinstein invites you to a party in his Four Seasons hotel room, don't go." According to her, she was immediately banned from CAA for speaking out against him, even though a friend of hers was recently sexual abused by Weinstein.

In 2013, a prominent CAA agent Cade Hudson (represents Meryl Streep, George Clooney, JJ Abrams) allegedly offered an actor sex in exchange for access to directors and a movie star. While he's currently facing accusations of sexual harassment as of December 2017, there have been no news of him being suspended or fired from CAA.

CAA recently fired their head of TV literature, Ryan Ly, after several alleged incidents of sexual harassment that were just recently made public. CAA is also being sued by an actress who claimed CAA agent Cameron Mitchell was her agent, and that he sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions. According to the victim, she said CAA's human-resources department ignored her request.

CAA represents Sean Penn (alleged of domestic violence), Shia LaBeouf (accused of domestic violence), Johnny Depp (accused of domestic violence), Mel Gibson (accused of domestic violence), Oliver Stone (accused of sexual harassment), David O. Russell (accused of harassment) and Logan Paul (who laughed at a corpse of a man who committed suicide).

WME - $1,000,000

WME's star agent, Adam Venit (pictured top left), is accused of sexually assaulting actor Terry Crews at a party in front of countless bystanders. At the time, Terry Crews complained to his WME agent, Brad Slaer, but the matter was not taken up by the agency and tried to quiet any claims. Crews upset about nothing happening, went public in December 2017, after which WME gave Venit a one month unpaid suspension before reinstating him. Not satisfied with the results, Crews ditched his management for UTA.

WME's clients include: Sylvester Stallone (accused of rape), Brett Ratner (accused of assault and sexual harassment), Dustin Hoffman (accused of sexual harassment), Christian Bale (arrested for domestic violence), Ben Affleck (alleged serial groper, Harvey Weinstein supporter), Casey Affleck (alleged sexual harassment), Michael Bay (alleged sexual harassment), Mark Wahlberg (convicted of a hate crime).

UTA - $1,000,000

Actress Rose McGowen has been extremely vocal about UTA for allegedly sending unsuspecting women to meet with Harvey Weinstein in his hotel room, despite knowing his alleged behavior towards actresses.

McGowen has stated, "To the agents who sent us to meet a monster: I hope you enjoyed that 10%, you are guilty of human trafficking."

UTA clients include: Murray Miller (Girls' writer accused of rape), Chris Brown (domestic violence), Danny Masterson (accused of rape), Johnny Depp (accused of domestic violence - but left the agency because he's broke), Bill O'Reilly (accused of sexual harassment).

ICM - $1,000,000

Tamara Holder recently settled a sexual assault claim against Fox News, stating she told her ICM agents Steve Levine, Matt Sorger and Will Horowitz that the vice president of Fox News Latino tried to force her into performing oral sex. Her agents discouraged her from reporting the incident to FOX, stating that her career would be over if she disclosed her abuse to her employer. Her ICM agents then refused to assist her lawyers when she went to move forward with the case. There has been no information about her agents being suspended or fired.

Superstar ICM agent Erik Horine was allegedly involved in multiple sexual harassment incidents, dating back to 2009. According to Variety, "Horine's alleged pattern became so well known that new female recruits in the TV department were routinely warned of his behavior by other women in the department." Many staffers mentioned Horine's behavior in their exit interviews in 2015 and 2016, but it wasn't until the Weinstein cases went public that Horine was fired at the end of the summer 2017.

Meryl Streep - $500,000

Have you seen the "She Knew" posters circulating around lately? This is why. Meryl is one of seven donors who donated $500,000 to Time's Up - one of the biggest individual donations. In her off time, she would frequently spend time with Harvey Weinstein, whom she called a "god" when accepting an Oscar for a film he produced. She also gave Roman Polanski a standing ovation at the Academy Awards. When asked about his latest prison stint for raping a child, she replied that she was "very sorry he was in jail."

Go rot in hell, Meryl.

Jennifer Aniston - $500,000

They say you are who you hang around, so let's hope that Jennifer picks some better friends! Alleged rapist Terry Richardson was the official photographer to Jen's wedding to Justin Theroux and has been a long time friend of the couple, despite being banned from a majority of publications due to his pervy ways.

Natalie Portman - $50,000

Natalie signed the petition for Roman Polanski's release (he was jailed for two months and then placed under house arrest) which stemmed from his 1977 arrest in which he pled guilty to statutory rape before fleeing to Paris. Polanski has stayed out of the United States so he can avoid sentencing.

Despite raping young children, Natalie Portman has showed public support for Polanski and starred in a short ad called "Greed" for him as well.

Cate Blanchett - $50,000

As the #22 highest donor for Time's Up, Cate Blanchett has worked with alleged sexual abuser Woody Allen on his film, "Blue Jasmine." When asked about why she signed on to work with an alleged abuser, she stated, "It's obviously been a long and painful situation for the family, and I hope they find some resolution and peace." She also stated that she would work with Woody Allen again if presented the opportunity to do so.

Emma Stone - $50,000

Despite public outrage for the actress working on both "Magic in the Moonlight" and "Irrational Man" with Wood Allen, in which she had a much older male love interest in both, Stone stated that working with Allen was on her bucket list. "I can certainly tick working with Allen off of my bucket list and the experience of working with him couldn't have gone better!"

While supporting this alleged sexual abuser in public, she also was the #23 highest donor to the Time's Up cause.

Justin Timberlake - $25,000

Despite donating a significant amount of money and wearing a Time's Up button at the Golden Globes, Justin is currently promoting a movie he just finished filming "Wonder Wheel" with Woody Allen in which his character falls in love with his stepdaughter - sound familiar? He has also worked with abuser Chris Brown.

Blake Lively - $25,000

While being the thirty second highest Time's Up donor, Lively had no problem working with Woody Allen for "Cafe Society" and even stood up for him in multiple situations. At one point, when asked about the allegations of child molestation against him, she said it's "very dangerous to factor in things you don't know anything about." She added that Allen is "empowering to women."

Scarlett Johansson - $20,000

One of the most well-known faces for the Women's March movement and now, the Time's Up movement, one may be surprised to see how her comments vary depending on who she's working with. She's spoken about Woody Allen, stating, "It's not like this is somebody that's been prosecuted and found guilty of something and you can then go, 'I don't support this lifestyle or whatever.' I mean it's all guesswork."

She's also been upset about how being affiliated with the alleged sexual abuser has messed up her Google alerts. "I think it's irresponsible to take a bunch of actors that will have a Google alert on and to suddenly throw their name into a situation that none of us could possibly knowingly comment on. That just feels irresponsible to me."

What else is irresponsible to her? She has called Dylan Farrow's letter "irresponsible" for calling out Woody Allen's ways.
