We never want to think that those who protect and serve us could be capable of this. A former Fruitland police officer has been arrested on multiple charges of sexual battery of a minor. Here's what we know so far.

Alexander Scott Plaza stands accused of having inappropriate contact with underage boys online.

According to an article on KTVB and the Washington County Sheriff's Office, an investigation started back in June.

During the investigation, they found evidence that Plaza had contact with minors as far back as 2017 and there are at least 5 victims under the age of 18.

The former police officer has been formally charged with seven counts of sexual battery of a minor between 16 and 17 and one count of sexual abuse of a minor under age 16.

Plaza is being held in the Washington County Jail under these felony charges and a $500,000 bond.

As for Plaza's background as an officer, he was employed with the Fruitland police from April of 2015 to June of this year. He was originally a full-time office, but could not meet the physical requirements, so he was moved to a reserve officer.

We'll keep you posted as this story develops.
