It's a week of headlines in the grocery corporate world with the recent resignation of Kroger Chairman and CEO Rodney McMullen and now, Albertsons announcing the successor to CEO Vivek Sankaran.

Albertsons Announces Its New CEO

According to a press release shared with Blue Book, Albertsons announced that current CEO Vivek Sankaran will be retiring on May 1 of this year. He'll be succeeded by current Albertsons Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer, Susan Morris, also on May 1.

"At a time of profound change for the grocery industry, I am honored to be appointed as the next CEO of Albertsons Cos.," Morris said in a press release. "I have worked closely with Vivek and the leadership team on our plans to accelerate growth and am confident that we are on the right path with our Customers for Life strategy."

According to her LinkedIn profile, the first prominent role Morris had with Albertsons was serving as VP of Operations from May 2004 to August 2008. In February of 2010, she returned to Albertsons holding various positions ranging from VP of Marketing and Merchandising to Executive VP of the East Region.

Many are now wondering how Morris will grow the company and of course, there's that whole failed merger with Kroger. Will Morris be the one who reignites the merger?

"I look forward to participating in the fiscal Q4 earnings call where we will discuss our strategy and provide our fiscal 2025 outlook," Morris said in the statement.

"Albertsons Cos. has an incredibly bright future and the best team in the business – I am energized about the many opportunities that lie ahead."

10 Idaho Albertsons Stores That Would've Been Sold in Kroger-Albertsons Merger

A document uploaded by the three grocery chains involved in the merger indicates that these 10 Albertsons locations will be sold to C&S Wholesale Grocers, if the merger is approved. The plan is to keep them open, but rebrand them under one of C&S's brands.
