One Of The Largest Diamonds Ever Found In The US Was In Idaho
Idaho is home to some amazing things and more often than not, outsiders often associate Idaho with one thing: potatoes.
It's somewhat understandable but if you "dig" a little deeper, you'll also find that Idaho is also rich in minerals - especially diamonds.
One of the largest diamonds ever found
According to the Digital Atlas of Idaho, one of the largest diamonds ever found in the United States weighed in at 19 ½ carats and was found between New Meadows and McCall.
We know what you're thinking: how much is that?
We looked at several sources and there are many variables that affect a diamond's worth including clarity, cut, color, and of course, carats. A diamond that's nearly 20 carats can be worth several millions.
There's just one problem... no one knows what happened to this massive diamond.
What info do we have on the diamond?
Losing track of a diamond that size has to hurt but surely, someone has it right?
According to one article, the diamond is known as the “Rock Flat Diamond” and comes from the areas between McCall and New Meadows. Interestingly enough, there was a mining claim for sale that we found through PicClick.com located near Goose Creek in Idaho. This seller mentions the nearly 20-carat diamond being found in the area.
Beyond that? We don’t have much information. Where could it have gone?
Theories about the diamond
While we’re not sure of the location, one thing is for sure: someone has it. It has to be somewhere; it didn’t just vanish… right? It’s a shame there’s no photo of the diamond but with as many accounts and reports there are of it existing, it has to be in someone’s possession whether in the United States or somewhere else.
Could it have been passed down by the original owners? Is it still in the state of Idaho?
One popular theory is that the diamond turned out not to be a diamond at all. It was then that experts probably determined that the diamond was something else and that may have been too embarrassing to share with the rest of the world. Again – it's just a theory, by no means do we know what happened.
It also doesn't look like we'll ever find out what happened to it unless we get incredibly lucky and the owner or someone who knows the owner reads this, resulting in them magically reaching out here to share the story behind the diamond.
Hey, we can "hope", right?
