Some people refer to them as fuzz busters. Maybe you've heard them called police scramblers. No matter what you call them, radar detectors are still pretty popular among drivers.

Why? Because many claim they can give you a heads up when police are nearby using speed-measuring equipment.

Do they work? Well, you came to a radio station blog, so hopefully you're not searching for concrete evidence or legal advice. We'll let you decide if they're worth buying.

The question is, are Idaho drivers legally allowed to use a radar detector in their vehicle to alert them of police presence?

Well, that's not so easy. The answer is yes and no.

For you reading this, the odds are most likely in your favor that yes, you can legally have and operate a radar detector in your vehicle while you're driving. That is, unless it's a commercial vehicle.

That's accurate. Commuters can use radar detectors at will, but if you're driving a commercial vehicle. Driving to work? Fuzz buster away! Driving a work vehicle? Don't even think about it.
