Idaho is pretty famous for a couple of things:

  • Potatoes
  • Scenery

Ok, so maybe literally one couple of things. What we're not famous for? Having a large LGBTQIA+ population in the state. We didn't believe it at first either, but the numbers do not lie.

Every year, the Williams Institute puts out new data about queer folks (or anyone who identifies themselves under the LGBTQIA+ banner), and the numbers coming back from Idaho are anything but friendly.

According to their latest statistics, only 2.8% of Idahoans identify as LGBTQIA+. The only state with a lower percentage than Idaho is North Dakota, clocking in at 2.7%.

According to their latest statistics, only 2.8% of Idahoans identify as LGBTQIA+.

The state (or in this case, district) with the highest queer population is Washington D.C., with almost 10% of all citizens responding identifying themself as LGBTQIA+.

Why do you think the numbers are so low in Idaho? And why is Oregon in 2nd with 5.6%? Let's connect.
