'We May Have To Hit The Panic Button' Says Boise Charity In Need

When there's a need in the Treasure Valley, there's always a way. The unique ability to come together and make things happen is what makes our area so special.

In a recent plea for help, the Boise Bicycle Project is asking for all hands on deck to make this year a success. Each year, the organization gives out bicycles to local children and this year, it's getting a little intense.

In a statement released by founder of the Boise Bicycle Project, Jimmy Hallyburton, the need was expressed:

WE MIGHT HAVE TO PRESS THE PANIC BUTTON! If we don’t get 200-300 bicycles donated by the end of this week, we will be hitting the panic button. I don’t know exactly what that means, because I don’t know if we’ve ever been this close to pressing it, but with only 11 days left to fix 230 more bicycles for kids like Tetiana, and only 30 bicycles remaining on our shelves, we’re getting nervous. We’re calling “all grassroots hands on deck!” for the next 5 days in hopes of finding 300 gently used bicycles before the end of the weekend.

The need this year clearly, very strong, and it's going to take a lot of folks to come together and give local children the gift of a bike this Christmas.

If you're wondering how to help, they have some suggestions:

GIVE If you have any used bicycles of any shape, size, or condition, you can take it to the Boise Bicycle Project located at 1027 S. Lusk Street in Boise. If the doors are locked, knock or call them at 208-429-6520
DONATE If you don't have any bikes, you can cover the cost of repairing bikes-- reach out to the organization. They can make the money go a lot further than purchasing a new bicycle
VOLUNTEER - they are needed--and you can be one that helps pick up bicycles around town. Email Benton@boisebicycleproject.org
