Invested as we are in learning Jimmy McGill’s Better Call Saul past, few can deny the curiosity of our brief trips in to the post-Breaking Bad future with “Gene.” It looks like we’ll be spending a little more time in the aftermath of Walter White’s demise, according to the first Season 3 photos, along with a look at the McGill brothers’ war.

It’s been some time since Better Call Saul closed out Season 2 with what seemed to be explicit reference to the biggest Breaking Bad-die, and Season 3 hasn’t started slippin’ teases of Jimmy’s return just yet. That said, creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould are all but confirming that Breaking Bad fans will have “several” familiar reasons to check out next season.

We’ve seen AMC series drop a number of easter eggs between shows like Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead, and Preacher seems to be getting in on the fun as well. Penultimate Season 1 episode “Finish the Song” made a notable connection with a famous Breaking Bad scene, but what does it mean for fan theories that the shows share a universe?

AMC’s Better Call Saul has seen a number of connections with its Breaking Bad roots in Season 2, with fans uncovering some compelling evidence one of the biggest “Bad”s of them all will return for Monday’s finale. Yes, the Chicken Man may return, but don’t get your hopes up for the finale just yet.

Lest you think AMC had in mind to abandon the journey from Better Call Saul to Breaking Bad midway through Jimmy McGill’s transformation, there’s no need to call a new lawyer just yet. Bob Odenkirk will continue breaking bad through a third season of Better Call Saul, creative team and all.

Prequels often afford the ability to trace history of fan-favorite characters, even if certain backstories are best-left unexplored. Case in point, Better Call Saul has lent plenty of depth to Bob Odenkirk’s erstwhile Jimmy McGill, though the actor himself wants fans to “stop hoping” that Bryan Cranston’s Walter White drops by for an appearance.

Early into Better Call Saul’s inception, Bob Odenkirk puzzled fans with news that the prequel lawyer drama wasn’t actually a prequel at all, but a hybrid of events before and after Breaking Bad. Last night’s Season 2 “Switch” premiere briefly returned us to Saul’s post-Bad life as “Gene,” but writers eventually intend to tell an entire episode in the sequel Breaking Bad timeline.
