Residents of Star have unsuccessfully fought growth over the last few years.

To many of us who've lived here a decade or longer, we didn't realize how dramatic the changes were as they were happening because the construction, orange cones and road closures seemed to drag on FOREVER.

Over the weekend, we took a trip to Portland. We came back feeling more grateful and proud to call Boise home than ever before.

We were today years old when there are entire Facebook groups dedicated to moving from California to Idaho. Some of them are quite large. We're talking up to 13,000 members large.

I used to laugh when people would get protective and wish no one knew how special our little corner of the world is. Now I've joined the "oh no, don't tell them about Boise" club, and it's happened again.

As was explained to me, 'you'll be so frustrated by the traffic, you'll gladly spend more money on funding public transit like Portland and Seattle.'
