House of Cards is approaching an understandable endpoint after six seasons and increasing scrutiny around Kevin Spacey, but the Underwoods’ legacy may yet continue. According to new reports, Netflix is going the Game of Thrones route with a number of potential spinoffs.

In what’s either the best or worst timing possible, Netflix’s House of Cards is about to crumble. The Kevin Spacey-Robin Wright political drama is confirmed to return for a sixth and final season, bringing the Underwoods’ reign to a close.

Just yesterday, we confirmed that House of Cards would move from its winter perch to premiere in April or beyond, and leave it to Frank Underwood to pull focus with a dramatic announcement. Season 5 is coming in May, and the first teaser somehow manages to make America bleak again.

Oft-stated throughout 2016 was the sentiment that even heightened political realities like House of Cards would find our real-life election far-fetched. Now, with inauguration looming, Season 5 has a bitter climate to debut against, and may not premiere until April (or later), per a recent shareholder report.
