Just before Suicide Squad hit theaters, there were reports that Warner Bros. had created their own competing cut of of the film, suggesting that director David Ayer’s vision had been compromised by studio interference. If the latest rumor is to be believed, then Justice League might be experiencing similar turbulence, as a new report claims that Zack Snyder’s superhero team-up film has undergone extensive reshoots, with even more on the horizon.
One of the things that will (hopefully) set Spider-Man: Homecoming apart from Sony’s previous reboot is the stronger emphasis on Peter Parker’s high school experience — something the filmmakers have touted from the beginning with comparisons to the classic teen films of John Hughes. Most of the trailers and photos we’ve seen so far have shown Tom Holland’s protagonist in Spidey-mode, but a new batch of images have surfaced that give us a better look at Peter Parker as a totally normal high school kid.
This new international trailer for Justice League isn’t nearly as long as the domestic trailers, but the latest sneak peek at Zack Snyder’s ambitious superhero team-up should hold you over until the next full-length preview drops. And despite its compact runtime, it does feature a little bit of new footage while teasing the mysterious new villain that will bring these heroic titans together, all set to a generic heavy rock cover of The Beatles’ “Come Together” that was clearly lifted from Snyder’s iPod circa 2001.
If it’s been a while since the last trailer was released for an upcoming film, and the studio debuts a new poster, then chances are pretty good that a new trailer is just around the corner — at least that’s our hope after seeing this new Spider-Man: Homecoming poster, which Sony revealed this afternoon. Or maybe we have a case of TGIF-induced optimism.
Watching the Mission: Impossible movies is like watching Tom Cruise engage in a series of escalating dares. Like the Fast and the Furious franchise, each new M:I movie features an increasingly bonkers stunt scene, made all the more impressive by Cruise’s dedication to performing his own stunts (or as much of them as humanly possible). It’s hard to imagine how Cruise and returning writer / director Christopher McQuarrie will outdo Rogue Nation’s riveting plane sequence, but according to the producer of Mission: Impossible 6, they have something “mind-blowing” up their sleeves. How mind-blowing? Well, Cruise has been training for the stunt for a whole year.
Just as dozens of new titles are being added to the Netflix Instant library each month, so must several others disappear. As you get ready for all the great new films and TV shows arriving in March, now would be a good time to make some room in your queue — starting with all the titles that are expiring from the streaming service next month, including favorites like Jaws and a pair of DC’s animated Justice League films.
A handful of Super Bowl ads have already landed online ahead of this Sunday’s big game — it’s the usual mix of TV spots for upcoming movies like Ghost in the Shell and Transformers: The Last Knight, along with a few ads featuring familiar faces like Gal Gadot and John Malkovich promoting businesses and collecting paychecks. And then there’s Honda. Like others, their ad for this year’s Super Bowl also features several beloved celebs, but there’s something kind of unnerving about the execution.
When the 2017 Academy Award nominees were announced this morning, the list offered the usual array of snubs and surprises — the latter of which ranged from pleasant to baffling; Moonlight picked up eight nods and a record number of black actors were nominated (Oscars #NotSoWhite this year), while Passengers picked up two nods (they just had to give that movie something, didn’t they). As expected, many of this year’s picks feel “safe”; it says something when the most divisive nominee is a musical about jazz — or is it? Maybe the Academy’s La La Land love and its increased inclusivity are distracting from the low-key elephant in the room.
Super Bowl ads often employ a familiar algorithm: Beloved pop culture noun + beloved pop culture noun = Entertainment. That equation isn’t always successful (see also: Passengers), but that hasn’t stopped studios and businesses, like Wix.com, from trying it out. The company has tapped Gal Gadot, aka Wonder Woman, and Jason Statham, aka Badass Action Dude, for their Super Bowl ad, which just so happens to be the first of this year’s bunch.
Like the official subtitle, plot details for Star Wars: Episode VIII are still unknown…well, mostly. We do know that it picks up right where The Force Awakens left off and that most of our favorite characters from J.J. Abrams’ film will return. Now that we've turned our calendars over to 2017, the sequel is just 11 months away from hitting theaters, which means we’re about to learn a whole lot about Episode VIII — starting with some new story info from director Rian Johnson.
