19 year old Juan Silva was walking on the railroad bridge to cross the Payette River when he was hit by a train. Officials say that when Silva heard the train coming he tried to outrun it, but never made it across the bridge. The impact from the train threw him down an embankment.
Rescue units arrived on the scene at 8:40 a.m. where they treated Silva before he was flown to Boise. Witnesses say that Silva’s leg was badly injured. He remains at St. Alphonsus in critical condition.
It is unknown how fast the train was going. Authorities have begun an investigation into the matter.
