Nearly 200 employees of the J.R. Simplot Company in Canyon County will be losing their jobs as the plant on Middleton road will be closing its plant later this spring.
New Channel 7 reports that a letter to Nampa Mayor Bob Henry says, "Simplot Unit Director Gene Gallegos says the company will cease operations in Nampa on or about April 18, 2014, or within 13 days after that date."

Company officials say that the initial layoffs will affect 189 employees and up to 17 salaried employees will be permanently laid off as a result of the new potato processing plant that is being built in Caldwell. More meetings are scheduled for the March 3 to inform employees and the community about what is happening.
