College football is a strange mistress.  I must admit that every weekend the drama played out on the gridiron exceeds any work of fiction.

The plots, the twists and turns, yet in college football we're dealing with reality and not fantasy. I'm wondering about the column I didn't write last week. I had it all planned out in my head, how I would make the case that Boise State doesn't belong in the Mountain West and should move on to a bigger conference.

Sadly, I'm glad I didn't share those thoughts with you after the Broncos historic loss to Utah State last week. Good for the Aggies, and once again it's why we play the game. So what can we expect from BSU throughout the rest of the season?

It looks like Memphis or Houston will be playing in the Fiesta Bowl this year, or perhaps the surprising Toledo Rockets. Good luck getting a national audience for that one! I don't believe that any of those teams will travel as well as the Broncos have in the past. The Broncos can salvage their season by winning out. It starts this Saturday against Wyoming on ESPN2.

However, no win is guaranteed. Air Force is one of those teams, like Georgia Tech, that gives any team fits. We'll see if the Broncos have revenge on their mind when they play the Falcons. Last year's game wasn't pretty. Last year everything fell into place for Coach Harsin and his staff. This year will be the true test of their expertise. It's easy when you're winning; the challenge is answering the bell once you get punched in the face.

The loss to Utah State could prove beneficial to the young Broncos. It will reinforce that nothing is given, and everything is earned. Especially when you're crashing the party thrown by the Power Five.
