Idaho Gets Magical 4th of July Northern Lights Appearance

The Treasure Valley has been along for quite the ride over the last several weeks. From record breaking high temperatures--to record breaking low temperatures (and FROZEN HAIL) in June.

A different kind of storm graced Boise area skies early into the morning of the Fourth of July, but this once was much quieter than what we have seen recently.

A 'Geomagnetic Storm' took place above Idaho and resulted in the magical Northern Lights appearing!

If you've never seen the Northern Lights anywhere other than Instagram, those of us that were fast asleep late Friday night may be regretting not being awake and looking up.

It seems like no coincidence that on the day our nation celebrates 250 years of freedom--Month Earth gave us a light show that doesn't smell like smoke, cost any money, or start forest fires.

The Northern Lights took over social media all across Idaho, Washington, Utah and beyond as the significant lights appeared stronger than usual in many areas!

Our favorite one of all might be the photo submitted by Cody Snodrass, who said his came from the Eagle, Idaho area.  We love that it shows the greens!

The Northern Lights have appeared above Idaho before!

You may recall that over the last year or so, we have, several times, received word from the Northwest Weather Service that this peculiar kind of storm was going to impact Idaho--and while the name makes it sound like some sort of scary sci-fi nightmare, it's actually one of the most magical things ever!

The images that come from the northern lights are simply amazing and many people list seeing these things towards the tops of their bucket lists--and it often requires traveling FAR from Idaho to see them. Or at least to NORTH Idaho from Boise.

This week? Not so much.
