Man, this Venom movie looks crazy. An entire film dedicated to one of Spider-Man’s arch-enemies, a living costume that gloms onto a person, and then becomes a monstrous avenger of wrongs? Without Spidey in it? Even in this age of superhero movie mania, that just seems too far-fetched to happen. But it opens in theaters in literally days!

It sounds like the movie could have been even stranger, though. In an interview with ComicsExplained, the film’s star, Tom Hardy, revealed that some 30 to 40 minutes of weird Venom stuff got removed from the finished film. In response to the question “What was your favorite scene to film?” Hardy replied:

They’re scenes that aren’t in this movie. There are like 30 to 40 minutes worth of scenes that aren’t in this movie... all of them. Mad puppeteering scenes, dark comedy scenes. You know what I mean? They just never made it in.

Oh man. When people say they want a Zack Snyder cut of Justice League, I roll my eyes. I don’t need more of that movie. I’ve seen enough. But without having seen the theatrical cut, I am already a full #ReleaseTheHardyCut truther for Venom. I need to see Tom Hardy’s original vision for this masterpiece, mad puppeterring and all. Someone start the Change.org petition. I want to sign.

Here’s the full interview for your viewing pleasure/misery when Tom Hardy reveals you won’t see him acting bonkers for 40 minutes.

Like a turd in the wind, Venom opens in theater this Friday.
