When Does Disney’s Streaming Service Launch?
What do you get when you put the best movies and shows from Disney, Lucasfilm, Marvel, Fox, and Pixar on one streaming service? Disney+, the company’s brand-new streaming service that’s launching in 2019. Though some details about the site are still unknown, here’s what’s been released so far.
Disney+ is scheduled to launch on November 12, 2019. It will cost $6.99 a month, and feature a mix of vintage and new original content — both films and television series — from all of the above brands, plus others like National Geographic and ABC. The full lineup hasn’t been made available, but Disney promises thousands of films and shows available on Disney+’s first day. The initial offerings will include Disney’s “Signature Collection” films, like Snow White, Pinocchio, and Peter Pan, as well as Marvel’s recent blockbuster, Captain Marvel. Within the first year, Disney+ will also have every Pixar and Star Wars film available for streaming. And unlike Netflix, where only select titles are available for download, you’ll be able to download everything on Disney+ for offline viewing.
The lineup of original shows and films coming to Disney+ is impressive too. The major headliner is The Mandalorian, the first live-action Star Wars TV series ever; it’s created by Jon Favreau and stars Pedro Pascal as the title character. You can also expect a Rogue One spinoff series starring Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor. From Marvel, there will be several original series, like Loki starring Tom Hiddleston, WandaVision featuring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, and Falcon & Winter Soldier with Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan. Pixar is making shorts featuring Forky, the new star of Toy Story 4.
