One of the best things about living in Idaho is that people can enjoy four seasons of outdoor activities. That means you can enjoy all that Idaho has to offer regardless of the time of year.

While the weather in some places can create some serious hazards, Idaho has seemingly the perfect balance of weather for outdoor activities... especially ice fishing.

Going Ice Fishing? Remember Safety First!

There are plenty of places in Idaho to go ice fishing but before you plan that, you have to know how to navigate the icy bodies of water you'll be fishing on. As we're all aware, you have to be cautious when traversing Idaho's frozen bodies of water or you can risk falling in... and no one wants that, trust us.

One of the key things to remember when ice fishing is to check the thickness of the ice. As Idaho Fish & Game warns us all:

Remember that ice conditions are constantly changing and are not uniform throughout the lake. Drill test holes with your auger as you move out to different areas of the lake and make sure it is a safe thickness.

But how thick do you need the ice to be in order for it to be safe? Thanks to Idaho Fish & Game, we have a guide that could prevent disaster for you and your loved ones.

Remember to double-check the conditions and come prepared every time you plan on ice fishing!
