New ‘Steve Jobs’ Trailer: A Fascinating Look at the Late Apple CEO
The first trailer for the new Steve Jobs biopic (titled Steve Jobs) didn’t show much from the film, specifically Michael Fassbender’s performance as that late Apple head. Today, a new trailer has been released that gives us a much better look into the film (and the life of Steve Jobs) and that’s both a great thing, and a not-so-great thing.
For starters, the film looks fantastic. The dialogue, as written by Oscar-winner Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network), pops and visually, it looks stunning. The film certainly doesn’t shy away from Jobs’ personal issues, including the daughter he neglected throughout much of his life and his difficult demeanor while at work. But, we’re having a hard time getting over one very important thing: Michael Fassbender as Steve Jobs.
It’s impossible to judge a performance based on one trailer, but Fassbender bears no real physical resemblance to Jobs and seems to be struggling to hide his Irish accent. His Jobs looks more like a superhero than a computer engineer (and, perhaps that’s by design). But, maybe Fassbender as Jobs will be so good (and in the context of a great movie), that we’ll be able to look past those flaws.
In addition to Fassbender, the film co-stars Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen, Jeff Daniels, Katherine Waterston and Michael Stuhlbarg.
Set backstage at three iconic product launches and ending in 1998 with the unveiling of the iMac, Steve Jobs takes us behind the scenes of the digital revolution to paint an intimate portrait of the brilliant man at its epicenter.
Steve Jobs opens in theaters on October 9.
