The ‘Stranger Things’ Kids Negotiated Insane Raises for Season 3
If you’re going to get chased by a Demogorgon a third time, you’d better get paid doing it. Sources indicate the Stranger Things cast has secured upwards of 1200% raises for the third season, including the show’s young breakout stars.
The Hollywood Reporter provided substantial insight into the salary tiers of the Stranger Things cast, which includes David Harbour and Winona Ryder on the top level, followed by the younger cast of Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin and Noah Schnapp, and a third tier for “teen” stars Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton and Joe Keery. Breakout lead Millie Bobby Brown is reportedly in her own bracket somewhere between the adults and her youthful co-stars, so as not to overshadow industry veteran and Oscar-nominee Ryder.
Ryder and Harbour were previously said to make $100,000 and $80,000 an episode, with the kids somewhere in the low $20,000 range. Now, THR alleges a Season 3 raise could put the adults at $350,000 per episode, with the “B” tier kids at $250,000; twelve times their previous salaries. Dyer, Heaton and Keery are said to bring in $150,000 per episode, with Millie Bobby Brown likely somewhere in the $300,000 range.
Unverified monster ratings aside, Stranger Things pulled in eighteen Emmy nominations last year, including nods for Brown and Harbour. Brown’s profile has also grown to include fashion and film roles in 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, as well as producing and starring in a Sherlock Holmes spinoff. Finn Wolfhard has also found box office prospects with It and The Goldfinch with Nicole Kidman, while Harbour’s already vibrant career will soon incorporate the title role of a new Hellboy film. Suffice to say – Stranger Things Season 3 was never going to come cheap.
Production is expected to begin on April 23, though a 2019 premiere has not yet been confirmed. Stay tuned for all things Stranger in the meantime.
