BOISE, Idaho Idaho middle school students with a love for STEM are putting their best projects forward today at Boise State University in the Student Union Building from 8:00a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

🌎 FUTURE city

Students from more than 20 schools across the state were challenged to design an advanced city for the Regional Future City competition presented by Discover.

What is Future City? An experience-based, cross-curricular education, the program combines science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to bring the students' futuristic cities to life. This year marks the competition's 30th year nationally, and its 19th year in the Gem State.

FUTURE CITY 2023: climate change

Future City nurtures the talents and abilities of sixth, seventh, and eighth-graders with a yin for real world problem-solving.

This year's theme is the Climate Change Challenge. Students will choose a climate change impact and design one innovative and futuristic climate change adaptation and one mitigation strategy to keep residents healthy and safe. The students build a model of a portion of their city to scale using recycled materials.

-Olson & Fowler, Regional Coordinators

Like real scientists, competitors will conduct their own research and present their findings before a group of judges in a live, seven-minute presentation. The panel comprised of science, technology, engineer, and mathematics professionals will follow-up with a 10-minute question-and-answer segment.
