If your wallet is looking a bit slimma' this year, don't panic: So is everyone else's.

The good news is that we actually saved a bunch of money on gas in 2024. If you live in Idaho, that is.

"Idaho gas prices have been as much as 50 cents higher than the national average, but the gap narrowed in 2024."

Across the country, gas prices fell on average around 20 cents per gallon in 2024. If you take a look specifically at Idaho, we fared significantly better. Gas prices in Idaho fell around 34 cents per gallon last year, which puts us way above the national average!

Currently, the price of gas in Idaho is falling at about one cent per week in 2025, which doesn't feel like much, but it's still something!

If you really want to go back and check up on gas prices, check this out.

Here's a list of how much gasoline cost (on average) the year that you were born.

(Just a warning, if you were born before 1980, prepare yourself for some major sticker shock)

LOOK: See how much gasoline cost the year you started driving

To find out more about how has the price of gas changed throughout the years, Stacker ran the numbers on the cost of a gallon of gasoline for each of the last 84 years. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.

Read on to explore the cost of gas over time and rediscover just how much a gallon was when you first started driving.
