Boise officials are shedding light on the city's creepiest pockets.

Embarrassed to admit you're a full-grown adult who's afraid of the dark? Don't be. Apparently, we have a few City of Boise officials with same issue. And they've been doing something about it since 2019.

City officials are on a mission to light up the night! Within reason, of course. Idaho's won't be going the way of Vegas any time soon. Officials are lighting up the darkest, and let's be honest, the creepiest pockets around the city with strategically planted streetlights and lamp posts.

Can Boise residents make requests for streetlights and lamp posts?

You betcha! Locations where public safety is a major concern take precedence, but Boise residents are free to submit requests. In fact, requests for streetlights and lamp posts are encouraged by the city officials. They know we know our neighborhoods like the backs of our hands. Why wouldn't they crowdsource leads from locals?

If your block or neighborhood gives you the creeps at night, the folks in Boise's Planning & Development Services department are ready to help. You can also contact Tom Marshall at (208) 608-7526 or Jason Taylor at (208) 608-7171 to make a request for a new streetlight.

For more information, follow this link to browse City of Boise's Public Works Streetlight Requirements. It touches on everything: aesthetics, how placement is calculated, photos of streetlights and lamp posts designated for your area, etc.
