We're just seven days away from Santa sliding down the chimney, leaving presents under the tree for all the good little children of the world. That is, if you leave out some milk and cookies for the big guy.

However, many families in Boise are deciding to skip Christmas entirely this year.

Every year, thousands of families celebrate December holidays that do not include Christmas.

December 25th is celebrated by millions of people across the world every single year. Some call it Christmas. Some call it Yule. Noel. The Yuletide. Whatever you call it, it's a pretty popular holiday here in Boise.

However, it's not the only holiday being celebrated this December.

There are actually a bunch of religious holidays celebrated in Boise every December. Here's just a small sampling:

  • Bodhi Day (December 8th, Buddism)
  • Hanukkah (begins December 18th, Judaism)
  • Winter Solstice (December 22nd, Wicca/Neo Pagan)
  • Zarathost Diso (December 26th, Zoroastrian)

...and that's just the tip of the iceberg!

So remember, if you discover someone who isn't celebrating Christmas this year the same way as you are, they probably have something just as incredible they're celebrating! The more you know, the more kind we can be :)

This writer thinks so.
