Does Boise Have Quiet Hours?

Absolutely. Even a city as lively as Boise prioritizes its down-time. Between 11:00 pm and 6:00 am, Boise-area residents are required to take it down a notch.

According to Section 18-6409 of the Idaho State Legislature, loud and rowdy neighbors could face major legal consequences. Unless you think a misdemeanor is funny, no, we're not kidding.

Every person who maliciously and willfully disturbs the peace or quiet of any neighborhood, family or person, by loud or unusual noise, or by tumultuous or offensive conduct, or by threatening, traducing, quarreling, challenging to fight or fighting, or fires any gun or pistol, or uses any vulgar, profane or indecent language within the presence or hearing of children, in a loud and boisterous manner, is guilty of a misdemeanor.

What's All That Racket Boise?

While we love your love for Taylor Swift, your neighbor might say you need to calm down/you're being too loud. Likewise, sharing a common drive with your motorhead neighbor gets old after a few late nights of roaring engines. Here are a few examples of unpleasant noises to avoid after 11:00 pm:

  • repetitive motor sounds
  • yelling & shouting
  • loud stereos & TVs
  • slamming doors & cabinets
  • running on a treadmill
  • vacuuming
  • loud power tools

Based off the list above, all of us have been the noisy neighbor a time or two!

How to Deal with Noisy Neighbors

Technically, you can call Boise police the moment your neighbor disturbs or robs you of your peace. But before you pick up the phone and file an official complaint against you neighbors, you might want to explore a different approach.

Whether you share a property line, a wall, or a floor with a neighbor, it's always best to keep relations friendly. While these suggestions are fairly basic, they're a great guide for keeping a level head in a stressful situation.

  1. Talk to your neighbor in a calm, respectful manner.
  2. Leave them a polite note.
  3. Offer a solution or a compromise.
  4. Let your neighbor in your home when they're being loud. This way they can experience it firsthand.
  5. Talk to an on-site manager.
