Well, this probably isn't the way you wanted to enter the holiday season, is it?

Knowing that whooping cough is making it's way across Idaho, including schools right here in Boise, isn't what we're guessing you wanted to find underneath the tree this year.

Well, too bad. It's here. How can you protect yourself?

Can wearing a mask protect you from getting Whooping Cough?

First of all, yes, Whooping Cough is back in Idaho. More details here.

Second, how can you keep yourself from getting sick? According to thousands of health experts, pertussis (better known as Whooping Cough) can be held at bay by a KN95 or KN94 mask:

...can also stop the spread of pertussis and other respiratory infections by washing your hands often, covering your mouth when you cough or wearing a mask, and avoiding being near infants and young children when you are ill.

If you're planning on going out over the next couple of days here in Idaho, it may be in your best interest to wear a mask. Or, at the very least, make sure you're healthy and washing your hands a lot.

Now, are we going to be mandated to wear masks out in public in Idaho during this current Whooping Cough outbreak? We doubt it.

However, nothing is out of the question. Just last year, New York state laid down mask mandates over numerous counties.

Would you abide by a mask mandate here in Idaho if they passed one? Let us know.
