Meridian Police Announce ‘Distracted Driving Crackdown’ This Week
If there was ever a reminder to drive safely in the Treasure Valley--with you eyes ON THE ROAD and nowhere else, let this be in.
In a recent statement put out by the Meridian Police Department, the public has been 'warned' or perhaps, just 'tipped off' that increased patrols on distracted driving are underway and if you want to avoid a ticket...keep the phones and anything else, down.
In a post on Facebook, Meridian Police said:
From April 6–13, Meridian Police will be out in full force for a high-visibility mobilization targeting distracted driving. Distracted driving remains one of the leading causes of preventable crashes in Idaho—and we’re working to change that. No text, playlist, or post is worth a life. Put the phone down, stay focused, and help keep our roads safe.
The post also featured a fun photo of officers ready to hit the road on patrol!
Honestly, we thankful that our local law enforcement can have a little fun online. Plus, any time folks can be warned of increased patrols should be counted as a blessing!
Most importantly, we all know that 'distracted driving' is more than just a ticket to avoid. It's an action that puts the lives of everyone in danger--things far more valuable than any fine you may want to avoid.
In Idaho, distracted driving comes at a $75 fine on your first offense and doubles on your second. That then doubles, again, for your third.
Stay safe, drive safe, and keep those eyes on the road, Idaho!
