Treasure Valley Heat Could be Deadly, Watch for These Symptoms
Admit it, there has been a time at some point this summer when we've complained about the heat, right? With triple-digit temperatures in the forecast for the rest of the week, we're in for a little more discomfort. But, if you're going to be outdoors for a lengthy period of time, whether for work or play, the heat can actually really hurt you, in some cases kill you!
KTVB broke down the very scary symptoms you can experience with heat exhaustion and the more dangerous heat stroke. Here are some things to watch for.
HEAT EXHAUSTION:
- faint or dizzy
- a lot of sweat
- excessive thirst
- nauseous or vomiting
- muscle cramps
- rapid, weak pulse
According to KTVB, Ada County Paramedics Battalion Chief, Bart Buckendorf, says "Heat exhaustion isn't necessarily a medical emergency. That can be taken care of at home.” If you're feeling these symptoms, be sure to find some shade, get some water, and chill out! If you don't tackle heat exhaustion quickly it could lead to something more serious.
HEAT STROKE:
- lack of sweat
- confusion
- temperature above 103 degrees
- red, hot, dry skin
- nausea or vomiting
- rapid and strong pulse
- fainting, losing consciousness <--- this is the most dangerous.
If a person has passed out or lost consciousnesses, it's time to call 9-1-1 immediately or get them to the hospital. Please be safe! Read more about heat exhaustion and heat stroke HERE.
