While a lot of us were bouncing back from the Christmas holiday, earthquakes were rocking the Gem State... and no one noticed.

It happens more often than we realize

If the idea of being in a natural disaster frightens you, you might want to reconsider living in Idaho. According to Volcano Discovery, Idaho experienced 1,641 earthquakes up to a 4.2 magnitude in 2023.

We don't know about you but that's a terrifying number. Sure, they weren't as destructive as some earthquakes Idaho has seen in the past, but we'll have more on that in a bit.

In December of 2023 alone, Idaho reportedly had 111 earthquakes with a magnitude up to 3.6 according to AllQuakes.com. The most recent earthquake at the time of this article's publishing took place on December 30 about 60 miles northeast of Boise.

With as much earthquake activity as we've seen, does this mean that we're getting closer to something bigger?

Using information from EarthquakeTrack.com, we were able to look at some of the strongest earthquakes to ever take place in Idaho. If an earthquake as strong as these were to ever strike Idaho again, there are a few things that we could do to stay as safe as possible.
