Are Facebook Groups Destroying Local Boise Businesses?
The internet is a powerful tool that can be used for both good and evil. We see the good in the form of viral videos all the time showing influencers doing good deeds.
You can imagine the bad side of the internet: the inappropriate areas of the web, fight videos, and... destroying someone's business.
Boise Business Owners Are Fed Up
We recently shared with you how the federal government is cracking down on "shady reviews". But, what happens when the reviews are floating around on social media? Who is keeping these reviews or hearsay in check?
Seriously - think about it. How hard would it be to pluck a hair from your own head or even a dead insect, place it on your food, snap a photo, and then share it on social media?
We're not here to condone that type of behavior so don't get any ideas! But, seriously - the internet is a wild place and unfortunately, some people have no shame.

In a since-deleted post in the Facebook group 'Boise Food Finds', one business owner went OFF on groups like 'Boise Food Finds' claiming they make things much harder than they need to be.
Luckily, at the advice of the original post, we snapped a few screenshots and are able to share some of what was said:
It is absolutely crazy to expect a business to be able to continue operations when a page like this allows such horrible content to go up regarding business owners with zero information of the truth, the facts, and the WHY these situations are happening - and most importantly, IF they are even happening.
The post was seemingly in response to a previous post in the group that greatly impacted the original poster's business.
To be quite frank, the Boise Food Finds post initiated by [REDACTED] from earlier this year has absolutely capsized our business sales. No individual can be expected to operate a business capable of paying employees, paying their rent, or paying their bills under this precedence.
The poster brings up a solid point - all it takes is one false bad review that can snowball and paint a false picture of what a business is really about.
We're all about uniting the community through local Facebook groups and learning of things happening around town. But, do you think there should be more rules or at least caution when it comes to coming after a business in one of these groups?
If you're a business owner, has this happened to you before? Let us know what you think here.
