FDA Warns Idaho About Viral Outbreak Coming From California
First and foremost, this isn't about COVID-19 and we're not here to talk about mask restrictions or anything like that. Rather, this is a virus that is more of an inconvenience than anything else.
What virus are we facing?
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Idahoans need to beware of the norovirus which comes with some annoying symptoms. But before we get to that, we need to know: what caused this outbreak?
The FDA says that the virus outbreak stems from oysters that were purchased by "restaurants and food retailers in California that have recently purchased oysters harvested in Baja California, Mexico from Acuacultura Integral De Baja California SA de CV - MX 4 SS."
What's worrisome is that this virus is contagious and causes serious issues. With people commuting between Idaho and California so often, this could be a problem.
The FDA says that food containing norovirus "may look, smell, and taste normal."
What to watch out for...
If you've been experiencing the following symptoms, there's a chance you could have norovirus. If you're immunocompromised and think you could have norovirus, contact your physician right away.
