The story of 5-year-old Matthew Glynn is one of the saddest stories of the summer.

While celebrating his fifth birthday party with friends and family, Matthew wandered away before being found deceased less than 24 hours later in a nearby canal.

A devastating loss rocks the community

The loss of Matthew rattled the community.

"Sadly, this is not the outcome we were all hoping for. Our hearts go out to Matthew's family, and we extend our deepest condolences during this incredibly difficult time,” Boise Fire Chief Mark Niemeyer said in a press release.

Now, the family of Matthew Glynn is planning to hold a vigil for him this weekend.

"Let's honor my special boy together," Matthew's mother, Amanda the host shared on the vigil's Facebook event page.

"Wear blue, and let's get together to honor the most loving, energetic, and one-of-a-kind Matthew Gabriel."

The vigil is planned for this Saturday at True Hope Church at 7 PM.

"We will play his favorite songs, wear his favorite color, and share special memories, and some silly ones too," Amanda said.

"I hope y'all can be there for my special little boy. If you are unable to attend or in a different county of Idaho or in a different state, I ask that you light a candle for Matthew in honor of him."

If you want more information about the vigil and how to participate if you can't make it here.

We extend our deepest condolences and prayers to Matthew's family during this difficult time.
