Being a political figure has to be difficult - especially in today's climate. No matter what you do, whoever isn't in support of your political beliefs will always find a way to tear you down.

Too often, we forget that politicians are people just like everyone else.

A Break From Work

Recently, Boise Mayor McLean decided to share her vacation to Africa with her husband, Scott.

"I am so glad to be back in our beautiful city, after a breathtaking vacation to Africa," the mayor wrote in her social post.

"This was a personal trip - one that Scott and I have been saving and planning for since we first learned about Boise’s connection to Mozambique."

The connection our mayor is referring to is the one with Zoo Boise. According to the City of Boise:

Zoo Boise has coordinated guided trips to Gorongosa National Park to see the animals, experience the park, and meet the people of Gorongosa. These trips strengthen Boise’s connection to the land, wildlife and people of Mozambique.

For the mayor, it was the experience of a lifetime.

"It was a bucket list item for us, filled with opportunities to connect with the people and the park that receive the money from Zoo Boise’s Conservation Fund – Gorongosa National Park," she said.

She even shared some awesome photos in her post but not everyone was happy.

The thing is, we're all for free speech but whatever happened to "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it all?"

People are allowed to take vacations and we've seen plenty of political figures, even presidents enjoy trips overseas, endless golf, and to put it simply - just blowing off steam.

This shouldn't be about politics, there's a time and place for that. Is she sharing this trip on her mayoral Facebook page? Sure, maybe it's a post meant for her personal page.

But shouldn't she feel okay with sharing her vacation and a trip that she saved for with the very people she serves? Everyone's entitled to their opinion, this isn't intended to be political, but let's set aside our beliefs and let humans be human.
