We'll admit, we thought that number felt inflated too. How in the world is there anything worth $100 billion dollars anywhere in the state of Idaho?

It's not potatoes. It's not oil. It's honestly the last thing you'd suspect, if you've even heard of it, that is.

So, what's Idaho hoarding that's worth so much money?

We're going to have to dig deep for this one. Litearlly.

As the Salmon River Range is home to billions of dollars worth of an uncommon strategic element called antimony.

It's used for all types of high-end applications, including military applications such as anti-armor materials, and fire retardants.

So, one could see why this stuff would be very, very valuable if we were able to extract it from the earth.

What happens next?

Well, companies are currently working on getting the right to mine the stuff. Could it be an endless stream of money pumping into Idaho's economy? We'll have to wait and see.

Have ever taken a look inside an abandoned mine? Sure, it sounds cool on the surface, but imagine being down there with just a flashlight.

No thanks. Too scary. Probably ghosts.

Also, it should go without saying that you should absolutely not enter any kind of mine for a thrill. Unless you know what you're doing, have the proper safety equipment, and are versed in proper caving protocol, we'd highly discourage you from being adventurous.

Cave diving and mine exploring can turn south real quick, as this fearless person recently found out.
