This little girl from Boise was poisoned after finding eating a berry in her backyard. Here's what you need to know to keep your family safe.

The Japanese Yew is a common plant in the Treasure Valley, but I never knew how dangerous it was.

Tyler Ross tells KTVB that he and his family were enjoying time in their backyard on Sunday, August 18th when his daughter brought over a seemingly innocent-looking berry.

Adelyn ate the berry and a few hours later started exhibiting strange behavior and shaking due to stomach pain. The effects of this berry are so toxic that they have killed elk in our area. That's how serious this is.

Poison control confirmed it was the Japanese Yew berry that had poisoned Tyler's daughter and she was rushed to the hospital.

24-hours later, the little girl was back home and okay, but it's something we all need to be aware of to keep our families safe.

The Japanese Yew is a bright red berry that's about the size of a blueberry or huckleberry. If you see this in your backyard, get rid of it and make your children aware of how dangerous this seemingly innocent berry actually is.
