Idaho is almost always Top 10 in the nation for most expensive gas prices.  Not a list we enjoy making on a consistent basis but I guess it is what it is.  Unfortunately, those summer prices keep going up and we're now officially in the Top 5.  Are you kidding me?  With all the states in the USA, we're almost the most expensive state for gasoline prices?  The answer to that would be YES!

Matthew Conde, the public affairs director for AAA Idaho says the reason our gas prices are so high is the result of high demand on a relatively small regional supply.  Blah, blah, blah as far as I'm concerned.  As a dad who travels just about every weekend to Salt Lake City to see his son, I can tell you it's a burden dropping a $50 bill into the tank every time I need to take off.

Oregon is traditionally much higher priced than we are but the past few days have catapulted Idaho past Oregon prices.  Right now Idaho is at an average of $3.26 per gallon and the national average is $2.83 per gallon.

East Idaho News gives us specifics as to how we rank with other states in our region...

  • Washington - $3.37 / gallon
  • Idaho - $3.26 / gallon
  • Oregon - $3.25 / gallon
  • Utah - $3.20 / gallon
  • Wyoming - $2.99 / gallon
  • Montana - $2.94 / gallon
  • Nevada - $3.19 / gallon

Hey, at least we're better than Washington, right?  Our region which is considered the Rockies Region according to the Energy Information Administration produces one of the smallest amounts of finished petroleum products on a daily basis which means low inventory.  And that means high gas prices.  Ughhh!
