Most people would agree that the economy is going through some massive changes. Where it will all land when the dust settles remains to be seen, but Idaho lawmakers aren't waiting around.

A new bill was recently signed into law that will offer a little relief for Idaho judges.

"It wasn't as much as we wanted, but it was a solid increase."

Let's be honest for a moment, there aren't many of us who will ever understand the work it takes to become a judge. Think about how many "judge" friends someone might have in their life at any level - magistrate, district, supreme court, etc.

It can't be that common, and as we acknowledged, it takes a lot of work to get to that level. Governor Brad Little agreed as he signed House Bill 322 into law, which will give Idaho judges a $17,000 raise on top of their current salaries.

According to the bill's statement of purpose, the judge salaries will look as follows:

  • $186,508 for a Justice of the Supreme Court
  • $178,508 for a Court of Appeals Judge
  • $172,508 for a District Judge
  • $164,508 for a Magistrate Judge

That looks like a great paycheck for most people, but one senator, Sen. James Ruchti, D-Pocatello, didn't seem fully satisfied as he reportedly told East Idaho News:

"It wasn't as much as we wanted, but it was a solid increase."

What Do You Think About The Law Giving Idaho Judges Raises?

We don't know about you, but any of those salaries sound good to us, even if Ruchti didn't seem as excited. The raises will go into effect on July 1st.

What do YOU think? Are these salaries justified and appropriate for our judges? Let us know your thoughts HERE.
