Living in the Treasure Valley is often a 'cool and collected' option. Rarely are there major crimes, major drama, or safety issues.

Yet every now and there, there's something just 'so Idaho' that we couldn't even make it up if we tried.

That is what happened this past weekend--and we're still wondering how on earth it came to be.

Reports of a BEAR SIGHTING in Nampa demanded local police response. Dispatch had heard there was a bear in a local tree and for Nampa, this is unheard of.

Maybe it was a large cat? Some sort of large raccoon creature?

Nope--it really was a bear.

Take a look at this 'bear-y' unique scene in Nampa from the weekend!

Have you ever seen a bear in person!?

Local law enforcement is constantly working to keep our communities safe and while they never know what to expect when coming to work each day, we can guarantee you that rescuing a bear might be the absolute last thing...

Nampa Police Department briefed the public on Facebook:

We don’t get calls like this everyday in our town!  When dispatch received reports of a bear in a tree near Franklin and Birch we were skeptical, but sure enough… So we called on some friends to help us out; after all, we’re city cops!  Shoutout to Idaho Fish & Game for their direction, abilities and equipment, and to the Nampa Fire for their willingness to help out.  The black bear was brought down from the tree with tranquilizers, loaded into Fish & Games bearmobile and then taken back to the wilderness - far, far away from Nampa.

Nampa's new mascot?? We think there's something to it..

These Idaho Bears Are Melting Hearts Everywhere

You probably already know that Idaho is home to plenty of bears-- but how often do you get to see them? When it comes to baby bears, there are even fewer chances--an encounter with them in the wild could cause the need for an aggressive escape from a looming mama bear.

Idaho Black Bear Rescue does an amazing job of sharing photos and videos from their refuge where baby bears are the stars!
