We should consider ourselves lucky if we're able to pay our rent or mortgage in 2025. It's really difficult out there for a lot of folks, and some are more down on their luck than others.

Unfortunately, for those who find themselves displaced from a home with nowhere to sleep, life is about to get even more difficult in Idaho.

What's this news about homeless people in Idaho?

The Idaho State Legislature recently passed Senate Bill 1141.

Here's why that's important: Said senate bill outright bans public sleeping or camping on public property in Idaho cities with over 100,000 people.

Yes, that means Boise.

When does this new rule go into effect?

Starting July 1st, 2025, the law will immediately take effect. Meaning, if you are caught sleeping out in public somewhere in Boise (or other large Idaho cities) you could receive a ticket that you'll have to pay at a later time.

Obviously, we don't have to explain why this will make daily (and nightly) life for homeless people in Boise even more trying than before. Clearly, this writer doesn't have the solution to fix everything. However, being kind to everyone, regardless of where they sleep at night, is always a good start.
