We've all heard innocent until proven guilty, but it is difficult to remember those words when such serious charges are brought against someone who was trusted around children.

KTVB is reporting that their former Eagle High School teacher and head basketball coach has been arrested on several felony charges including rape, sexual battery of a minor and sexual exploitation of a child.

32-year-old Star resident Jeff Ranstrom was taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon facing three sex-related charges and two felony burglary charges.

The allegations include a "lengthy sexual relationship" with a 17-year-old girl.

Detectives started working the case after hearing about it from a third party.  Law enforcement believes the illegal sexual contact happened dozens of times between March and August of this year.

The contact is said to have taken place in Star, Meridian, Eagle and Boise.

Mr. Ranstrom did resign his position with the school on September 23rd. Both as a social studies teacher and coaching the boy's basketball team.

If you have any details regarding this case you're being asked to contact Detective Neil Daigle at ndaigle@adacounty.id.gov or call him at (208) 577-3704.

Ranstroms first court appearance is this afternoon, he is currently at the Ada County Jail.
